Mark Zuckerberg the CEO of Facebook says he wants to bring facebook back to its root as a social network by re-prioritizing post from friends and family over publications from media and brands.
In his post on Thursday, he said ” As we roll this out, you’ll see less public contents like posts from businesses, brands and media. And the public content you see more will be held to the same standard. It should encourage meaningful interactions between people.”
He also said that one of facebook’s big focus areas in 2018 is making sure the time users spend on facebook is a time well spent. He added that the main objective of facebook is to help people stay connected and also bring together with the people that matter.
This move has cost him $4b already saying that he was willing to take the fall now for the medium and long term benefits. It’s however unclear what this will mean for brands and publishers who have grown reliant on facebook for distribution.
