Perplexity an AI company on Tuesday makes a bid to purchase Google chrome browser for $34.5 Billion. And the fascinating part is that the company, Perplexity, is valued around 18 Billion dollars that’s nearly double the price it’s offering . Although this isn’t the first time that it has made such big moves on the Chrome Browser, but we believe there’s a lot of caveats to this which largely lies in the fact that the US government wants to split up big tech companies and Google’s Alphabet is one of them to avoid monopoly power. All eyes on the incoming court ruling on Google’s future.

However, Perplexity says they have investment funds that are willing to support this bid in full, but again this is a long-short offer. The AI company Perplexity launched its own AI-powered web browser called Comet in July. The company is pitching it as a more personalized browser that connects the dots between a user’s calendars, browsing tabs, social channels and more.
Why interested in Google’s Chrome browser?
The Long- Short position says it all; Perplexity is going for Google Chrome even though it has launched its own browser because it is one thing to try to build your browser from scratch and it’s another thing to acquire one that has reached billions of people in the world. The Chrome browser has garnered millions of users and acceptability around the world and for most people it is their default browser. Comet doesn’t come close! It’s going to take a while for it to reach its destination. Also, Perplexity is also looking to injecting its AI agent capabilities into this browser which will in turn allow for more efficient use.
This is supposed to give them a major head start but the challenge would be the money! Pulling out $34.5 Billion seems like a far cry away. What do you think?
