Chinese Police Deploy Smart Sunglasses With Facial Recognition To Spot Criminals in Crowd

Do you remember ROBOCOP?  You can call this the Robocop glass, or better still, call the Chinese police ROBOCOPS!

China operates the world’s largest CCTV network, with 170 million CCTV cameras in operation. I’m sure you heard me…that’s Nigeria’s population (one CCTV camera to one Nigerian). How safe and secure its citizens would feel!

And now they are deploying a new line of sight to the CCTV’s, the Smart Sunglasses. This glasses would act as additional CCTV’s  with great flexibility to move since they are on the faces of mobile police men and women.

How it works

The Glasses—which resemble Google Glass—are connected to a police database that can match people with criminal suspects. The new technology requires one facial image to match for a similarity comparison in the database. For comparison with the information of suspects on the wanted list, the facial information captured by the glasses will be sent back to the database.

So much for “Glasses”, something used for fashion….
